Accurate HMDA filings are essential for financial institutions. Because HMDA is one of the more complex reporting statutes, and because it is heavily relied on as a means of monitoring compliance with other laws and regulations, this can be tricky. Accurate data capture is essential, and you need to be able to rely on your loan department staff in both retail and commercial departments to collect accurate data. Loan officers, processors and others who capture this information must understand the rules and implications of this process.

About the Presenters:
Charles is a Vice President and Compliance Manager with Wachovia Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina. His career in banking and consumer lending spans forty-one years, and includes twenty-three years in regulatory compliance.
He is a graduate of the National Compliance and the National Graduate Compliance Schools at the University of Oklahoma. He received the ICB Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) certification in 1991, and the Certified Risk Professional (CRP) designation from BAI in 2001. He is a graduate of the Alabama Banking School, University of South Alabama, and served as assistant class director of the Class of 1995.
His work with the American Banker's Association includes: a frequent speaker at the ABA Compliance Conferences and Telephone Seminars. a former faculty member of the National Graduate School of Compliance Management -IU/PUI, a former member of the Compliance Executive Committee, and the CRCM Advisory Board.
Charles has participated in several Bankers’- On-line (BOL) educational seminars. He has been an instructor in the BAI’s HMDA "Boot Camp" workshops and a BAI ACE Conference speaker.
He was a speaker in the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank’s 2003 HMDA Conference; and a speaker for the Federal Reserve Bank’s CCRS HMDA Training Programs in San Francisco and Dallas 2004 through 2007.
In the past thirteen years, he has participated as a speaker for the Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Michigan State Banking Associations compliance seminars, workshops and training programs. He has served on various state compliance and credit committees and advisory boards since 1991. He is a former Director and Board member of the Alabama Bankers Association’s Regulatory Compliance Institute.
He has been a speaker at several trade organizations seminars including; the Centrax Group, the South Carolina Compliance Officers Association, the South Florida Compliance Association, the Dallas Area Compliance Association, the Administrative Management Society, the National Recovery Association, and the Credit Professionals International.
As a compliance subject matter expert, he has provided a banking compliance perspective to the General Accountability Office and the Federal Reserve Board when they requested information, contemplating revisions to laws and regulations.
He has written and published compliance articles in the Compliance Action Newsletter; the ABA Bank Compliance Magazine; the ABA Banking Journal; the South Carolina Palmetto Banker Magazine; the Sheshunoff Bank Operations & Technology Newsletter; the Alabama Banker magazine; and the Alabama Bankers Compliance Corner.
